'First thanks to Nick and all those involved for hosting a really great HOTT event.

Free on demand tea, coffee biscuits and a pie/pastie (even a veggie option -special thanks) with mini muffins in a delightful light warm venue plus a freebie HOTT dice with a frog instead of the 1 all for a fiver is astonishing good value. A warm welcome and lots of lovely HOTT players made the day an absolute delight.'

'To my astonishment dear reader I had won the tournament. Wow a bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape as a prize. Joy.
As always a real delight to be out and about in our lovely HOTT community. 4 GR8 games with 4 delightful opponents. That's a prize even better than winning.

 Regards
 Pete Duckworth'

 Alien Squad Leader Tornament 2011

Here are the results of the tournament. They are presented in the following order:

Name /Army /Game1 /Game2 /Game3 /Total Score /Placing

Richard Leitch/Greys/45/50/50/=145/1st - almost the maximum score (150)!

Nick Pope/2nd Global War Allies/45/0/50/=95/2nd

Kev Adams/Alien Imperial Strike Force/5/50/40/=95/2nd

Hugh McGregor/Human Imperial Strike Force/25/50/0/=75/3rd

Smurf/Hive Mind/25/35/10/=70/4th

Alex Self/Human Imperial/5/0/50/=55/5th

Calann Jarvis/Alien Imperial/25/15/0/=40/6th

Owen Webber/Human Imperial Strike Force/25/0/0/=25/7th

There were 4 gaming tables, the tournament giving an opportunity to feature more scenery than is normal in a standard game.

A well deserved win for Richard Leitch, who has come close to top spot for a number of years, and using an army of Greys - not an obvious choice for a tournament winner! Richard did comment that he was lucky that he faced relatively small, elite armys (2 x Imperial Strike Force and 2nd Global War Allies) which meant that he could paralyse thier most powerful units, leaving them with little to fight back with. What he dreaded was fighting a horde army with too many targets to take down.

Nick used one of the new feared "heavy tank" armies, with six tanks supported by inferior infantry and crewed weapons, which performed well except against the Greys, who would paralyse the beastly tanks, then use a flying saucer to transport a unit to attack the stricken vehicle in the rear, where it's armour was thinner. I guess something similar must have happened to Kev Adam's Alien Imperial Strike Force, which was otherwise scarily resiliant, despite always losing his APCs in every game.

Smurf unveiled his new army, a cheeky Hive Mind force consisting entirely of miniature sheep, trailing loose flocking material wherever they went, and which inspired an impressive number of sheep-related puns like "black sheep down", etc.

SEASIDE SHOOT-OUT

The forces of law and order took another step forward on the road to victory this Sunday when a combined Police, Army and LDV force raided the village of Badger-by –the –Sea and broke up several smuggling gangs that were operating in the area.

Inspector Foyle of the Yard confirmed that several arrests were made and a large amount of contraband was seized.

“This area,” he said in a statement to the press “has been well known for many years for illicit activities,   including handling stolen goods but in   particular with regard to smuggling. In these troubled times this type of activity has been steadily increasing and this raid was designed to put an end to it.”

It is thought that several smugglers were killed in the operation but there were no casualties for the Police, Army or LDV forces.

As well as seizing a considerable amount of contraband and three boats, one of the LDV forces also managed to rescue the two penguins that had been stolen from Bristol Zoo earlier this month. Both birds are said to be in excellent condition considering their ordeal, and both would be back in the penguin enclosure as soon as a vet had given the all clear.

An army captain who was involved in leading the military side refused to confirm or deny the rumour that a Communist sniper was also killed during the raid. However Lady Bagshaw (who gallantly lead one of the LDV forces) was quoted as saying that Davinia (the school rifle shooting champion) recognized the man as he took up in position in a nearby wood.

“Davinia immediately recognized the individual as a well known Communist sniper. Since he was carrying a rifle and was clearly intending to open fire on our forces she asked for and was given permission to fire. “ said Lady Bagshaw, “It is a credit to her training and skill that one shot was all she needed.”

Inspector Foyle also refused to comment on the alleged battle between Communist forces and smugglers further up the coast. Local residents reported rifle fire, several explosions and what appeared to be a large plume of smoke.
